The fire was really getting hot at the head end. I zoomed in for a great image of the flames... |

...when suddenly it lept forward about 200 feet!
A loud roar and trees started exploding. Holy shit!! The reality of it all (and my complete stupidity) suddenly set in and I ran my ass up the hill as fast as I could. |

While that should have scared me into going down, we were so close to the top that
I had to look.
There was only 1 fire truck and a truck from the local power company up there. |

The coolest thing about being on the top of the hill was watching the tankers fly over,
suddenly dumping thousands of gallons of water down on the fire.
They barely cleared the towers on top the hill trying to get the angle right. |

I need to explain this image somewhat:
That is a wall of water, the plane is just behind the trees. The amount of noise the fire made when the water hit it was astounding. |

Another fire truck just made it up the twisting and bumpy access roads that
lead up here. They asked us to leave the area (comon sense would dictate
that I shouldn't need to be told).
We started to walk back down. |
