Happy Tuesday!

September 09, 2003 By: bio Category: General

It’s the aftermath of Monday, and I feel it.

I spent most of last night attempting to buy things for my eldest son. He’s grown beyond what he used to like in clothes (which is whatever we bought for him) and has developed his own individual sense of style. In plain english… those $8 t-shirts no longer work for him… he needs the $30+ ones.

Damn teenagers!

It was fun shopping with him, but I had problems paying for it. Apparently my bank’s link went down so my debit and credit cards wouldn’t work (and I hadn’t brought my checkbook). Since the link was down, I couldn’t even get money out of the ATM. Thank God I had my other cards with me (though it’s pretty embarassing when your card doesn’t go through… they just stare at you like you’re a bad person).

I’m still working on the site to attempt to make it more Netscrape friendly. If you use Netscape and you’re having issues with how the page displays (ie. It’s all white with black text). I’ve done a number of things to attept to correct it, changing lines of code and adding a .htaccess file so that Netscape parses css files properly.

Sigh…

No link of the day today. I’ll try to find something for tomorrow.

T-minus 1 day to normality

Tonight is the last night of my 4 week graveyard stint.

I cannot express enough how happy this makes me.

While I was able to get a lot of work done over the last few weeks with few interruptions, it’s also been a source of quite a few frustrations (those of you who actually read this thing may have noticed a rant or two).

Sunshine and buttercups from here on out! Scouts honor!*

I started training my replacement monkey this morning. He’ll get some more training tomorrow, just to make sure he’s got it.

Today’s plan: play a little Battlefield 1942 on the Seattle T3 server while consuming a few beers… then bed. Wake up around 10pm and finish this shift. Oh yeah… I lead the rock star life!

* offer void if someone pisses me off

The world is a messed up place

The whole pizza man story is creeping me out.

What do you do in a case like that?

I guess I’d do what he did… exactly what I was told to do.

I actually got some sleep today, so I’m feeling fairly good. The whole graveyard thing ends on Friday for me (I only have to come in 2 more times before I go back to days), and that makes me happy. Of course, now I have to get used to sleeping at night again… so that should be interesting.

I’m still stuggeling to finish my BSC item (making graphics for a marketing style display). My problem is that I’m overly critical of my work and think it all looks like crap. I’ll have to show what I’ve done to the group next week and get their input. Hopefully they’ll find it acceptable (everything has to be done by the end of the month… the display, the website, and the multi-media presentation). Good times!

Link of the day: George W. Bush Automatic Speech Generator. Simulates the power that Rumsfield has.

Input this for a chuckle: “after loving your working women _pause_ the vast and exceptional endurance that president delivered is strong and needs to be touched tonight” <applause>

And now… week 4

September 02, 2003 By: bio Category: General

Currently I’m about dead. I’ve only managed to get about 10 hours total of sleep in the last two days. Between the phone ringing off the hook, the people ringing the doorbell, and the dogs barking every time the wind blows, sleep has been a hard commodity to come by.

This brings me to my soap box rant of the night:

DO NOT CONTINUALLY CALL ME OR SHOW UP UNANOUNCED!! I sleep odd hours and it never fails that I’m right in the middle of my sleep period when the phone rings off the hook or someone just drops by to see how I’m doing. I’ll tell you how I’m doing… I’M SLEEPING!!! Unless you are related to me or married to someone who is… go away. Seriously.

I’m a little surly due to the fact that of the last 72 hours, only 14 have involved sleeping. Can you tell?

An observaton: Stouffer’s Lean Quisine Grilled Chicken Caesar bowl is actually edible as far as frozen food goes. It also beats the hell out of Cup-Noodle.

A second observaton: something in the ceiling just made a horrible sound… like it’s falling apart. Hopefully I don’t end up with one of the HVAC units falling through the roof and crushing me to death (though in the mood I’m currently in, that would be a sweet release).

A third observation: Those lying bastards at Maxwell house! They said their 8oz (226g) jar of instant coffee made 120 servings. I cry “bullshit”, as it’s nearly empty (and there’s no damn way I got even halfway to 120 cups of coffee out of this thing!).

Now that I’ve gotten a few things off my chest, I’m going to attempt freebasing the remainder of thus said instant coffee as part of a desperate ploy to stay awake.

And thus ends week 3

After a rousing 60 hours, week 3 of graveyard has finished.

This weeks highlighs:
The TMS server arrived (a HP Proliant DL360 1U rackmount server).
The IP address given to BMA for Weblogic Server 5.1 was wrong (2 days to fix)
The IP address given to SmartSynch was wrong (1 day to fix)
The Slinger application failed on Wednesday, causing Calvin to totally spaz (priceless).

Remind me to beat the person in our IT department who’s responsible for handing out IP addresses.

Plans for the long weekend:
I’m going to go catch the Indians play on Saturday night with the seeSTORE and her husband. I’m not much on baseball, but it’s different when you’re actually at the game… you get to watch those who are completely and totally into it. Ooooo… people watching! Great times!

My wife has also left town to go stay with some friends at their mountain cabin. She packed up the durango, took the dogs and my Cake CD, and left on this little sojourn about 15 minutes ago. Wooooo-hoooo…. I’m a free man for the next few days! Oh they debochery, oh the profanity! Well… I’ll actually just walk around the house in my underwear because I can’t find my pants.

On a final note before I find my pillow: Nisan Cup Noodle = Explode-O Ass when you’ve eaten pretty much nothing but for 3 weeks. Careful kids, that may not be a fart you feel coming on. Note to self, bring an extra pair of shorts to work.
