Name the kitty!

September 27, 2005 By: bio Category: General

My wife called me from the animal shelter last night. She wanted to pick up a new kitten to help fill the void in our home by the untimely demise of our cat, Darwin.

Of course, I said “yes”.

When I got home from work, I was greeted by this little fuzzball:

Cute and fuzzy...

... and ready to tear your hand off

She’s very energetic and has a few extra toes (a total of 7 on each foot). Of course, we are now searching for the perfect name for her. I suggested “SATA” and “RAID”, but my wife put the smack down on me with the geek names (besides, I’ve already had cats named “Modem”, “Icon”, and “Switch”).

So… have at it… suggest names for the little tube rat. If we like it and choose it, you’ll get your name in lights on the website for at least 30 seconds 🙂

Happy Birthday!!!

My very best friend on the internet, Google, is 7 years old!

They have been, in my opinion, the hands down best ever search engine out there. I use it daily and can’t imagine life without it!

So… to Google: Happy birthday, and thank you for being there!!

Overkill gets a new home

September 18, 2005 By: bio Category: General

As you may recall from the time of lore, this little website and the others I host were living on a little server I had named “Overkill”, an HP Netserv LH3 with dual PIII 600 processors, an 8GB system drive, six 18GB SCSI drives in a RAID-5 array, dual NIC’s, and redundant power supplies.

You can see why I named her Overkill.

Of course, Overkill developed a problem (it can’t seem to keep track of the damn time and would lose 3 minutes per day) so it was to be replaced with Woody (the current server).

When I was asking for donations, the deal was that the person who gave the higest dollar amount could have Overkill. Of the two people who donated $100 to the cause (*sniff* I love them), neither wanted the server, so it’s been sitting in my house collecting dust for about a year.

Someone finally said they wanted her to use as a file server in their home.

Today, I opened up the box, blew out a few years worth of dust and cat hair, and fired her up. Of course, she had blown her SCSI array when I shut her down last, so I have to wait for that to rebuild. Then I can scrub the box, install Ubuntu, and find someone who’s willing to help me lift all 225 pounds of her and haul her up the stairs and into my car for delivery tomorrow.

Overkill... thank you for all you did for me!

I’m Famous

As you probobly know (unless, of course, you in the 90% of my traffic that found this place while looking for porn) I run a little forum. It’s populated by some rather clever people.

The problem with clever people is: sometimes they do clever things.

Example: they found a website that generates fake news stories. They thought it would be funny to insert my name into one. It’s now the 2nd highest google ranked page when you search for my name.

Bejesus…

Sick as a dog

As I posted last time, I took the week off to paint my house.

Things aren’t exactly going as planned.

My eldest son brought some nasty illness home and infected the rest of us. I’ve been dizzy, coughing my head off, and my nose has become a snot factory.

Good times!

I did manage to get a little bit of painting done yesterday, but I didn’t think it was a good idea to stand on a ladder for too long when my whole world was spinning. Today, I need to attach the down-tube for the rain gutters on the back of the house. The gutters are about 30 feet (9.14 meters) from the ground. Balance is a must when you’re on a ladder that high 🙂
