I was sitting on my deck last night when I heard the sound of screeching tires followed by an odd “woomp” sound.

It came from the corner next to the grade school about a block away from my house. I could see kids running and decided to hobble down and take a look myself. I had fears of someone hitting one of the many kids that tend to collect there after school, playing on the playground equipment.

What I saw when I got there was a motorcycle lying in the street.

I immediately called 911 but they had already gotten the call, which was a good thing, because the rider (who was also in the middle of the street) looked like he was in a great deal of pain.

Apparently, there was a truck hauling a boat who had slowed to make a left hand turn. The motorcycle was several cars back, and not seeing the turn signal on the boat decided to punch it and pass all the vehicles (must have been in a hurry).

“Woomp” is the sound a motorcycle makes when it slams into the side of a 20′ boat.

The rider was pretty messed up, broken ankle, compound fractures in his lower and upper leg, but he’ll live. Hopefully, he’s learned something.
