Monday, monday… so good to me…
After a rousing weekend of pretty much nothing exciting, the week begins once again.
It was the first weekend in months where my sister and brother-in-law didn’t come over for dinner and games, so life was pretty boring. We did bake another ham, since the damn dog stole the one I baked last week (it was wonderful!).
Today, we’ve got an installing going on with a utility in Alabama, so my phone has been ringing off the hook (“can you see the new meter?”). In the last 15 minutes, I’ve had 10 calls. At least I’m earning my money.
Still no word on getting the injection into my spinal cord. I’m gonna give them till Friday to schedule the appointment before I call.
Oh… one more thing: there’s an email going around that supposedly quotes the Quran. According to the email, the following is from chapter 9, verse 11:
“For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.”
After searching online versions of the Quran, I can say with 99.9% certainty that the email is a load of crap. Verse 9:11… please.
This is what I hate most about the internet. Stupid crap like this gets written and sent out, and no one takes the time to verify it, they just accept it at face value. You’ve got the largest research tool in the world available to you… use it! (ie: this link, this link, and this link).
Of course, you have to be careful when you do research things, because myths like this are self propogating. Since people have the tendancy to take things at face value without verifying anything, they post these messages on their websites as truth. It’s good to be a little jaded and look for something else.
If you receive this, do everyone a favor and mock the person who sent it to you, then delete it. Do not forward this crap.
Can someone please explain this……..?
How about this verse. Any comments on it.
As Sura 9:29 of the Qur’an declares: “Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, [even if they are] of the people of the Book, until they pay the Jizya [a special higher tax rate] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”
1Does that come from the Qur’an or from the Catholic Church? (as a small payment combined with a few “Hail Mary’s” will forgive all your sins)
But I’m not going there. The post wasn’t about Islam. Personally, all religions are pretty much the same. The problem is people get caught up in symantecs and the belief that their religion is the one true religion.
But I digress…
My point in this post was about looking things up and verifying that you’re not just purging mental diarrhea on the next guy in your mailing list.
Seriously… take a moment and verify things before passing them on. It won’t hurt, and you may just learn something new.
