Roy Horn costume is teh funneh!

November 03, 2003 By: bio Category: General

The weekend was good. Once again, my sister and brother-in-law came over for dinner, drinks, and a kick ass game of Risk this weekend.

Risk isn’t a game in my family, it’s a religion. Unfortunately, my wife isn’t a gamer, so I haven’t played in a long time. My sister told me that I’m not nearly as ruthless as I used to be. I guess that’s what happens when you only play 3 times in the last 5 years. When my brother was alive, we used to play it constantly. The battles for control of Australia were intense (hold Australia, rule the world!).

Of course, we often played variants of the game. A favorite was “Evil Poncho Villa Risk”: Roll double 1’s on defense and you’re a loser… drink a shot of tequila. Roll triple 1’s on attack, you’re a complete loser… drink 2 shots and turn the board around (now he’s you and you’re him… and it’s his turn).

I don’t think we ever finished a game of “Poncho Villa Risk”.

Today has been fairly “meh” so far. It snowed yesterday, so It’s colder than hell, and they’re tearing out the “smoking lounge” at work. It’s a metal shed with electric heaters, except the heaters were removed today. They’re building a new one and that’s where the heaters and lights went… but it’s not open yet.

Guess I’m gonna have to quit.

Oh… and here’s my choice for Best Halloween Costume, 2003 (thanks mmeowgrl!)
I told you pussies were dangerous!!

  2. That’s a question to ask mmeowgrl.

  4. BTW, I feel stupid, but…what is “meh” & most importantly, “teh funneh”?????

  5. Hehe… Risk is a board game, usually played around a table with good friends and a couple of beers. Willingness to crush thus said friends is a must.

“meh” is an apathetic term… “teh funneh” means “the funny”, only spelled stupidly. Usage: “OMG!!! xbox big is like teh funneh!! LOL!!111”

Things are things… waiting on my back surgery and taking morphine. Other than that… not bad. You?

  6. Well, I’ve played my share of Risk and fought like the dickens to hold Australia as well. I was just wondering if there was an online version since it’s harder to get to spokane these days, and would not mind crossing swords with the likes of you ;).

Getting your back whacked, eh? sorry to hear that. I had my gallbladder out 8 October, but I had to eat lotsa painkillers and tailpiped antinauseals for a week prior – the local surgeons in Pullman would not take my insurance. Hated the drugs!

Otherwise working on a job proposal to fund me for a few years of seeking and destroying cereal leaf beetles here in WA and trying to finish my MS, but mostly watching my kids while my wife sadly works I love my kids, who are now 2.5 years and 13 mos. old. Miss the old days at SSI sometimes – I liked not being a loner in my work.

Nice to know you are still alive, if not entirely well – we will pray for a speedy recovery for you.

Like your graphics work – you put some of that font folio to good use!

Take care, Tone and drop me a line anytime!

  8. Dan G. says:

Well, I got a new version of Risk for you all to try out sometime. I have never been able to complete a single game.. so players beware.

Multi-dimentional Risk! Using 2 boards with all the normal rules. You can jump from 1 board to another board on the same territory (ie. Kamtchatka – Kamtchatka). Attack and defend as normal. But beware the almight slug army invading from the inside of controlled continents.
    heh.. I dare ya!

  9. rebekah jeffreys says:

was johnny depp really edward sissor hands?

    9
  10. No… Johnny Depp is an actor who pretended to be Edward Scissor Hands. The real Edward Scissor Hands was actually a man by the name of Hugo Nebakowalski.

He and his older brother, Herzog, immigrated to America in 1947 to escape from the great beet blight in his homeland of Estonia. Shortly after his arrival to America, he lost both of his hands in a freak accident involving a blender and a chicken. Herzog made those now famous prosthetic hands for him.

Hugo’s dream was to be a track star. During a track meet in 1952, Hugo died after tripping on his shoelace. Apparently that old adage “don’t run with scissors” has some meaning after all.
