MS World

Microsoft is now in the blog business. You too can get your own msblog, complete with shared music, pictures, and other fluffy crap for free (well… if you have a passport).

I created my own just for giggles. It’s in beta right now and not very good. It does, however, feature a handy little “abuse” link in case you might post an opinion that others dont agree with (say something against popular or unpopular opinion, get shut down). What a great option! You can have a blog for free, but free speech… well, let’s not go there!

I’ll stick to what I have, thanks.

In totally unrelated news: Country Music: Why do this to yourself?!?

We went to Zips for lunch and they had the muzac turned to country. The drone if down-trodden men and women came wafting thorugh the slightly greasy and yellowed grills in the ceiling. Of the few songs that I listened to the lyrics of, 3 were about a spouse who had left, 1 was about losing a job, and the other two were about drinking ones self into oblivion.

Why do people listen to this crap? Is your life so bad that you need to listen to someone who’s singing about how they have it worse so you can feel better (or relate). These people DON’T have it worse… they have record contracts, they tour, they make money you’ve only dreamed of! They sing songs with all the whit of a fart and people buy their albums.

I guess the music is popular… in the same way as Nascar, Professional Wresteling, and price rollbacks at Wall*Mart (yes… I do catagorize them all together).

If you want music to slit your wrist by, may I suggest The Eels “Electro-shock Blues“.

If you're gonna do it, do it right!

  1. Not all country is gloom and doom.

  2. No… some of it’s about sex with sheep.

  3. listen to the words in some of the other c rap etc.

  4. I’m the first to admit that there’s crap in all genera’s of music. Be it country, rap, techno, pop, jazz, you name it.

I’m also a huge fan of all music… well, most music. My CD collection is pretty expansive, samples from nearly every type of music (though I tend to lean more toward techno, pop-synth, break beat, and trance).

It’s more than just the lyrics. While strong lyrics are a must, the music itself has to be intelligent and have a polished feel to it. Multi layering of tracks is a definite plus (listen to a little Depeche Mode and you’ll know what I’m talking about).

And there’s the cultural bias side of me. I grew up on a farm in South Dakota. I was surrounded by people wearing goofy hats, blue corduroy FFA jackets, belts with buckles the size of dinner plates, and ugly boots. I thought it was silly then, and I find it even more so as I’ve grown older.

To be fair, I also find people who walk around with their hat on sideways with 5 pounds of “bling” and their pants hanging down below their butt to be just as ridiculous.

    But I digress.

I don’t like country music, I find both its musical style and message silly, and it’s artists comical. But, being that we live in America (yay!), I can have my opinion, no matter how right or wrong it is, and others can have the same. We agree to disagree.
