Spam that makes you go… um, what?

March 19, 2005 By: bio Category: General

Oh man… I get a lot of spam.

I installed spam assassin on my server and set it to a level that’s much more stringent that the default, but a lot of crap still finds its way into my inbox.

Take this peach for example:

Have a good day.

What the fuck does that mean? There wasn’t even a link to go with it (and no… the possible url in the subject isn’t any good).

After reading that inspiring cut and paste from different parts of God knows what, I was ready to grab my wallet and punch my credit card numbers into whatever website it beckoned me to. But alas, there was no link, and I was forced to lie in anguish for what could have been.

I got another 10 emails, all with the same message, about some investment opportunity. Being that the spammer is all clever and stuffs, the replaced the letter “L” with a pipe (or “|” for those who aren’t as geeky as I). Um… sure… I’ll buy two from you as well.

Unfortunately, spam assassin doesn’t catch everything that comes my way, but it does seem to eat pretty much everything that’s sent from AOL (a large percentage of which are jokes from my Dad). I can live with that. 🙂

So how many header images do you have? I like the blue car the best…
Thanks for the referals I’ve gotten for my piss-ant site from yours.
    Good luck with the back…

  2. Currently there are 24 images in the queue. That number will go up or down depending on my mood.

I’m glad that you’re getting traffic from the link. I noticed that I didn’t have one to you with the new site (there is one on the old legacy version) and added it the other day.

The back is coming along. I was allowed to actually drive myself to the store yesterday and have huge plans for today. I should return to work this Thursday or so.

  3. I’ve got my Spam Assassin set to four, but I’ve also got a lot of custom filters set. Shoot me an email to the address that comes with these comments. I’ll shoot back a copy of my config file.

  4. Just checkin’ in to see how the spamassassin scripts helped out. Have you heard of this project?
http://www.projecthoneypot.org this is an anti-spam initiaitive. Since you’re having such a problem with it. It might be a good thing for you to look into.
