Closing out retro week
Well, that was fun! Digging up the past, dusting it off, and presenting it as new.
It’s a pity that I didn’t think to archive the old sites until 2001. Prior to that, I’d simply delete an old post when I added a new one, keeping only the previous 5 entries (this was before blogging software was born and I did everything in html with notepad).
Such is life.
On to modern times:
Yesterday was my eldest son’s 16th birthday. As I’m home on disability, I decided to bake and decorate the cake myself (something that I hadn’t done since I was a college student and they were very young). Since his birthday wishes had a heavy computer theme, he got a computer themed cake:
He had a good haul… Asus Motherboard, AMD XP 3200+ (400mHz FSB, Barton Core), 1 GB PC-3200 (DDR400), a Pantera, Katana, and a new optical mouse. He’s one damn happy (if not totally spoiled) kid.
Other news:
I called my neurosurgeon and they’re releasing me back to work on Monday. While being at home all day can be relaxing, it’s boring as hell and I’m looking forward to going back to work. The nurse said they’d only release me because I work in computers (read: I’m a soft cubicle geek who doesn’t do anything physical at work). I can live with that. They are throwing a weight restriction on me so that my boss can’t order me to pick up a server and possibly tear my sutures out. Good times!
