Upgrade a go-go

February 25, 2005 By: bio Category: General

I’ve been an upgrading fool this week.

First I upgraded all the forums on my server to the latest and greatest build (so we didn’t have a repeat of this crap), then I decided to get to work on the ol’ blog.

WordPress released a new version of this bad boy and I was ready to brave the waters and attempt an upgrade.

Oh man… do I have work ahead of me!

Apparently, I need to heavily modify my CCS from the old site (as you can see the right column isn’t to the right… it’s at the bottom of the page). I also had to rewrite my Load-Dump blocker (this makes it much harder for a spammer to automate the process of filling my blog with his/her special blend of shit).

Ugh… I’ll keep on it.

The days of honor are over

I’ve purchased a lot of stuff at BestBuy over the years, but those days are over.

After having a couple of issues with them in the past, then watching two friends get screwed over by them, I think it best to part ways.

I present to you: Exhibit A, Exhibit B.

It used to be that when you purchased a product from a company, they stood behind it. Now, that only seems to be the case if you pay them for an extended warranty (and in the case of Exhibit A, that won’t even help).

If you’re looking for computer parts, shop newegg. If you’re looking for a whole computer and don’t feel like ordering the parts and building it yourself, call Dell.

At least they stand behind what they sell, and you don’t have to pay them extra to do it.

My VD gift arrived!!!

My wife presented me with my Valentines Day gift last night.

She had ordered it a while ago but it apparently took some time to come in. It was very much so worth the wait!

sexy AND dangerous!
Kuryakyn steletto tips for my metric ISO grips.

Damn sexy! Dangerous too (I guess dumping the bike and landing on my handlebar is now out).

Of course, the second I opened my present, I immediately ran to the garage, grabbed my tools, and got to installing (apparently, that was the right reaction).

Yay!! 🙂

My wish list

I got this email from my boss a few minutes ago:

Travis – If we need to add KVM components, cards, cables, let’s get them on order this week so that we can ensure that they hit Feb’s budget.
Let me know what you would like to purchase.
You had also mentioned about ordering some drives for the external array. If we still have use for this, then please get a PO submitted for those components as well. Jim may have some need or use for additional disk space.

All – Anything else that is needed?

I replied with the following:

I’d like a pony!

Valentines Day – now I’m broke.

How was your Valentines Day?

At Casa de WWBD, all went well. I had purchased a ring for my lovely wife, a 2.5 carrot Brazilian garnet surrounded by diamonds (and before you ask… no, her birthday is not in January… she just likes garnets.

Bling Bling!

It was well received, but I felt that I should get her something more, so I ran at the last minute to the store to procure a dozen roses and a bottle of Rosa (a red sparkling wine that she likes). Pure chaos ensued.

Clueless men were in the floral department by the dozens. Each one was looking at flowers with the same dazed expression on their face. They had several women working in that department, trying to assist in picking out flowers. How hard is this?

After finding a dozen coral roses (which were mislabeled as Vendela) and the bottle, I made haste to the checkout stand, standing behind an army of other men who had grabbed whatever they thought might be pretty.

Note to the man ahead of me… a fern with a small red heart balloon on a stick, while economical, is not going to get you anywhere when you get home. Prepare the couch, good man, for you will need it.

I got home, presented my wife with her flowers, wine, and some chocolates from Hallet’s (a local candy company that makes outstanding chocolate). She, in turn, presented me with a card and some scratch tickets. 🙂
