How to go insane in 127 easy steps

March 10, 2006 By: bio Category: General

Work has been crazy for the past two weeks.

I’ve got a trip to Boston to plan (including software, hardware, etc…. and I’m leaving on Monday), and we’re trying to come up with a plan for the new Data Center (including power requirements, HVAC demands, and sizing).

Preparing for the trip has been hectic enough, trying to get everything I need by today (I’m still missing one software package, but have been assured I’ll have it by the end of the day). This morning, I was also told that the new Data Center design is also due by close of business today as well.

Since I’ve never designed a Data Center before, I put on my turbin of infinate knowledge and came up with the following:

The all important hotel bar

I’m sure that there are plenty of people out there who have done this kind of thing before, and they’ll tell me what I’ve made is totally wrong. All I have to say to them is: “STFU!”

ROFL!!!

According to the Clinton Foundation’s website, Bill Clinton is looking for some interns.

Pure comedy gold!

My favorite quotes from the page:

Hands-on experience: Interns have the responsibility of interacting directly with staff…”

“We are very proud that our staff now includes several past interns”

*tear*

I like Clinton, but OMG… that’s damn funny!

Oh… and they only use the word “oral” once when talking about communication skills (typically, they have “verbal” instead).  I wonder why 🙂

Yet another reason I’m glad I left South Dakota

February 25, 2006 By: bio Category: General

While I wasn’t born there, I spent more of my youth in South Dakota than I did anywhere else. I left the town I was living in, Huron, two days before I turned 18 and never looked back (there wasn’t anything for me there).
I’m once again glad I left that two mule, olive pit of a state.

South Dakota is banning abortion under any circumstance.

Myself, I’m a Pro-Life Choice person. I don’t agree with abortion when used as a form of birth control, but recognize that there are a number of situations where it might be in the best interest of those involved to have one. It’s a decision that can only be made by those whom it will effect. I also know that if it’s banned, abortions will still happen, but with no regulation to insure that they’re done correctly or safely. Simply put: women will still have the procedure, and many will die as a result.

With the legislation that South Dakota is putting forth, if someone is raped, and a pregnancy occurs, there will be no way to terminate the pregnancy. This means that under law, the rapist will become the father and will therefore have a fathers rights with the child.

WTF!

Also, under the law, a woman may not terminate a pregnancy, even if it may end her life.

WTF!! (part II)

Once again, the powers that be are setting aside your rights, and are instead are legislating their “values” on you (and their decision is totally based upon a religious belief, not on the well being of women, their right to make their own decisions, or with any thought about the children that might be born).

Simply put, a woman’s right to choose is being revoked. What’s next? Shall we remove their right to vote and make them cover themselves from head to foot when in public? Let just remove the separation between church and state while we’re at it.

It’s finally done

For those who are following along… the pixelthugs.com domain (and all it’s subdomains) have been moved.

It only took 10 hours of OMFG!! hard work 🙂

If I host you, and you have an email address ending with pixelthugs.com, and you didn’t read the notice I had posted for the past month or so, and you can’t access your webmail, well… I’m going to beat you over the head with a large stick.

Your webmail login has changed, the address you use to access it has changed, hell… everything has changed.

I’m assuming you know how to get a hold of me, so if you can’t get in, let me know and I’ll get you the instructions.

Yes, I do hate computers

Well… not really, but at times they frustrate the hell out of me.

Today is the day that the pixelthugs.com (and all of its sub-domains) get moved off of my box (woody) and onto the servers over at dreamhost.

I had made a backup of each sub-domain, dumped all the mySQL databases, and was in the process of transfering them off of my server so they could be uploaded to the new host.

That’s when the internal NIC on the firewall decided to be a complete bitch and give up the ghost.

So… I’ve spent the last hour trying to get it up again (I’ve messed with the settings, replaced the NIC with an identical one, etc), but it was to no avail. I still can’t get to the webserver from the outside world.

Fuck!

So… I’ve called in the big guns (aka: my friend Jess). He can still get to the firewall and will hopefully be able to figure out WTF is going on.

I’ve already transfered the DNS, so at least mail will start going the right direction (the accounts are all set up). Hopefully… we can get this thing working soon.

UPDATE: we got it working.  Stupid thing!

Now, if I the power company could supply me with electricity that didn’t suddenly cut out in the middle of a huge upload to the new server, I’d be happy (I have a UPS on my server, but not on my workstations).
