And the results are….

October 10, 2003 By: bio Category: General

For anyone who cares, I’ve got a nasty case of dermatofibros (scaring of the neural sheath where the nerve projects from the spinal cord). When combined with my 3 herniated discs, it makes life kinda nasty.

Unfortunately, the treatment I need is currently in medical trials and won’t be available until next year. I could get into the trial, but I would only have a 1 in 3 chance of getting the procedure if I did, so it’s best to wait.

They will attempt something that will make things a little better, injecting cortisone directly into my spinal cord (which requires I be sedated because A) It hurts like a mother fucker and B) If I move during the procedure, walking again will not be an option).

So… the current plan is: take painkillers until I end up like Rush Limbaugh. The unfortunate side effect to this plan is my lack of productivity at work. I’m not sure how long my boss will put up with me drooling all over myself in my cube in between bouts of self pity and despair.

Other than that… life is good.

Today’s the day!

I finally get to see my neurosurgeon today.

Hopefully he’s had a chance to review my MRI and will have planned a course of action to correct whatever the hell is wrong with me. I’m also gonna ask if they can’t get me on a different painkiller (as this one has the tendency to make me a little emotionally unstable).

If it comes to surgery (which it most likely will), I’m hoping that they can get to it quickly. The novelty of the whole situation is worn off and I’m ready to move on.

Wheeeee, fun!

In other news: I gave my furnace a test run for heat yesterday (for those of you who don’t read this boring excuse of a website on a regular basis: I’ve been having fun with the furnace for 3 months now). The good news: heat came out. The bad news: It stinks like all hell. I’m hoping that it’s just the dust burning off.

And speaking of ChristmasTM, don’t forget to order the “Official WWBD gear”TM for those you love! Order now and beat the rush!

meh…

It’s tuesday, and I’m stoned out of my mind.

While the meds to dimish the pain (actually… it’s still there, I just don’t care as much), they have some side effects that I don’t much care for.

They make me rather emotional (nothing gets people out of your cubicle faster than bursting into tears). They also make me very sleepy. Just typing this is a challange.

I hate this.

Thursday is the day I get to see my neurosurgon. Hopefully he’ll come up with a plan of action to fix me quickly. My greatest fear is that he is unable to do anything for me.

Sorry… once again I’m not all wacky and entertaining and stuffs. I’m tryining to stay positive, but I’m fresh out of positivity at the moment.

Sick day

October 06, 2003 By: bio Category: General

I’m feeling like hell today so I called in sick.

This gives me an excuse (like I need one) to dance around in my underwear, watch daytime TV, and eat cereal straight from the box (while drinking milk right out of the container)!

Woot! I’m a rebel!

Of course, I was on a conference call with a customer and did some research/documentation for work, so I do get to mark about half the day as normal pay.

I’ve also done some webdev for a friend of mine (setting up a domain for his resturant. I do the hosting and design, he gives me free food/drinks whenever I go in). Life is pretty good that way.

Currently, it’s sleepy time, and I’m gonna find a pillow for my drug numbed head. The damn hydrocodone flowing through my veins is making my brain mushy and sleepy. Hopefully my dreams won’t be as vivid as they’ve been reciently (read: weird as hell!).

No link today, come back… one year!

Friday, friday, bo-friday….

October 03, 2003 By: bio Category: General

Once again the week ends and it’s time to look back and reflect.

Lessons learned this week:

  • Hydrocodone + automobiles = bad mojo
  • Hydrocodone + php = dead server
  • Hydrocodone + me = zombie
  • Hydrocodone + work = non-productivity
  • Hydrocodone = /dev/null

I hate taking drugs, expecially when the drug becomes a pivitol part of your life.

In other news, the birthday yesterday was excelent! My wife came by work and brought me a lovely boquet of baloons (black and white, of course) and then took me out to lunch at the Azteca (mexican fare).

When I finally got home after work (the boss decided that I needed to attend a last minute meeting that went till 6pm), I had friends and family waiting to wish me a happy birthday as well.

    *sniff*… I feel loved.

Plans for next week: Visit my neurosurgon and find out just what the hell is wrong with my back.

Link of the day: Adopt A Villain (Because bad guys need love too!)
