Now I’m just angry

March 28, 2005 By: bio Category: General

Today marks my return to the land of cubicles. My neurosurgeon released me to light duty (read: don’t lift a server and rip your sutures out) which shouldn’t be too bad, since I sit in a chair most of the day.

I was pretty happy about it this morning. Sitting at home is very boring. I’m not so sure how happy I am now though.

My back is killing me, and I was prepping the checklist for whomever was assigned to work the graveyard shift tonight. I checked the group calendar and found out that the lucky sap who gets to come back at 2am to monitor the servers is…. ME?!?

Fuck… this about sucks! All I want to do is go home and lie down and I have to come back and work the friggin’ graveyard shift?

My wife pretty much summed it up:

  • “you could call your neuro-surgeon and have them recant your work release. You are suppossed to be healing, not working yourself into the ground!!!!”

Blah.

** UPDATE **

I spoke to my boss about this. Apparently, I’m still on the schedule, but won’t be pulling graveyard any time soon. Someone else will be doing those shifts until I’m well enough to do them myself.

*sniff*

I wub her!

Happy Easter!

It’s Easter at casa de WWBD, and we’re prepping for the whole “Eat until you die” routine.

The Easter Bunny came by during the night and delivered enough chocolate to cause a sugar induced coma. How that little bastard gets into my house each year is beyond me. One would think our dogs would eat him or something.

We’re currently boiling a couple dozen eggs for coloring (forgot to do that yesterday) and then will start baking the ham, scalloped potatoes, and green bean casserole.

Other stuffs:
My glorious return into the land of employment begins tomorrow. Not that I was unemployed, but I’m looking forward to going back to the land of cubicles. It’s been damn boring here. My back is ready for the most part, though I did a number on it yesterday (all I did was drive my car). We’ll see how things work out.

I “AM” the law

I’ve lived in Spokane, a two mule olive pit of a town, for 21 years now. Today, for the first time ever, I recieved a summons to report for jury duty.

I’ve often said that I ‘d like to do this, and now I finally get a chance. Knowing Spokane, it’s probobly got something to do with a meth arrest, but it should be interesting just the same.

I’ve been ordered to report on May 2nd at 8am.

I doubt that I’ll make it past the first cut of jury selection, but it should be interesting anyway.

Closing out retro week

Well, that was fun! Digging up the past, dusting it off, and presenting it as new.

It’s a pity that I didn’t think to archive the old sites until 2001. Prior to that, I’d simply delete an old post when I added a new one, keeping only the previous 5 entries (this was before blogging software was born and I did everything in html with notepad).

Such is life.

On to modern times:
Yesterday was my eldest son’s 16th birthday. As I’m home on disability, I decided to bake and decorate the cake myself (something that I hadn’t done since I was a college student and they were very young). Since his birthday wishes had a heavy computer theme, he got a computer themed cake:

Mints and cookies make good chips!

He had a good haul… Asus Motherboard, AMD XP 3200+ (400mHz FSB, Barton Core), 1 GB PC-3200 (DDR400), a Pantera, Katana, and a new optical mouse. He’s one damn happy (if not totally spoiled) kid.

Other news:
I called my neurosurgeon and they’re releasing me back to work on Monday. While being at home all day can be relaxing, it’s boring as hell and I’m looking forward to going back to work. The nurse said they’d only release me because I work in computers (read: I’m a soft cubicle geek who doesn’t do anything physical at work). I can live with that. They are throwing a weight restriction on me so that my boss can’t order me to pick up a server and possibly tear my sutures out. Good times!

Once again: WWBD History

Here are a few links into ye olden archives of crap: (all links open in a new window)

What I did on my Spring Vacation

WWBD Quality Beverages

A quick note on the gravy soda. Three years after I came up with the idea, Jones Soda went into production with a Turkey Gravy soda. My first thought was “Damn you… you stole my idea, you fuckers! I should sue!!”, but then I noticed that all the money went to Toys for Tots. Um.. crap. I guess it’s ok if you steal my idea, but ONLY if you give the money away to charity.

Another item that was taken from my site was the old bioland logo. If you look at the Benjamin Gate’s website… it’s all over the damn place. Again… they’re a Christian band, so I’d feel guilty about suing them too.
